Genus Tamarix Family Tamaricaceae

Description: Trees or shrubs.

Inflorescence a cluster of dense racemose branches. Flowers mostly bisexual, ± sessile. Flowers 4- or 5-merous. Stamens free, as many as petals or twice as many. Ovary usually of 3 carpels.

Seeds with an apical tuft of hairs.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 55 species, Europe, Asia, Africa. Australia: 2 species (naturalized).
