Genus Ammobium Family Asteraceae

Description: Perennial herbs; stems with herbaceous wings, woolly.

Leaves mostly basal, alternate, entire.

Heads solitary or in terminal corymb; heads broadly cup-shaped; bracts in several series, numerous, graduated with laminas on successively longer herbaceous claws; laminas ovate, papery and petal-like; receptacle conical, with persistent large scale subtending each floret. Florets numerous, tubular, bisexual, fertile, 5-merous; corolla sparsely glandular. Anthers with long fine tails, terminal appendage triangular. Style lobes truncate, with prominent conical papillose apices.

Achenes slightly flattened, unequally 4-angled, glabrous; pappus a membranous cup, entire or with 2–4 short awns.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: Qld, N.S.W., S.A.
