Genus Crassocephalum Family Asteraceae

Description: Erect or straggling herbs.

Leaves alternate, margins deeply lobed to entire.

Heads terminal, solitary or in corymbs; peduncles leafy or bracteate; involucral bracts 2-seriate, outer row reduced and inconspicuous, inner row linear and conspicuous; receptacle hemispherical, pitted. Florets all tubular, bisexual; corolla 5-toothed. Anthers with an apical appendage. Style branches linear.

Achenes cylindrical, ribbed; pappus of numerous hairs, not persistent, longer than involucre.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, Africa & Madagascar. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
