Genus Decaspermum Family Myrtaceae

Description: Shrubs or trees; new growth glabrous or hairy.

Leaves opposite, petiolate.

Inflorescences axillary, occasionally terminal; flowers solitary or in cymes, botryoids or paniculate. Flowers usually 5-merous. Sepals persistent. Petals pink or white. Stamens numerous; anthers globose. Ovary inferior, 3–12-locular, ovules 2–4 per loculus, collateral; stigma capitate.

Fruit a berry, vertically ribbed; seeds separated by a vertical false septum, testa bony; embryo curved, cotyledons very small.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, China to Australia & Pac. Is. Australia: 1 species
