Genus Dichrocephala Family Asteraceae

Description: Annual herbs.

Leaves alternate, toothed or lobed.

Inflorescence terminal, heads in a panicle or rarely solitary; heads small; involucral bracts herbaceous with fimbriated membranous margins, 1- or 2-seriate; receptacle hemispherical, naked. Ray florets absent. Outer disc florets female, tubular, minutely 3-toothed; inner disc florets few, bisexual, campanulate, 4–5-toothed. Anthers obtuse at the base, apical appendage minute. Style branches short, papillose.

Achenes compressed, glabrous; pappus absent or rarely 2 minute scales or bristles.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 13 species, Africa, Madagascar, Europe, Asia, Australia. Australia: 1 species (native).
