Genus Diospyros Family Ebenaceae

Description: Dioecious trees or shrubs.

Leaves alternate, 2-ranked, branchlets often zigzag; frequently minute translucent dots visible in thinner leaves, not aromatic when crushed.

Flowers usually 3–5-merous; calyx persistent and often markedly enlarged in fruit.

Fruit a ± succulent berry.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 400 species, mainly tropical & subtropical regions. Australia: c. 15 species, Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
