Genus Elachanthus Family Asteraceae

Description: Small annual herbs with non-glandular hairs.

Leaves cauline, alternate, margins entire, sessile.

Heads terminal, solitary, pedunculate; involucral bracts 2-seriate with 1 to 2 outer shorter ones, herbaceous with scarious margins; receptacle convex, naked, pitted. Outer florets 2–3-seriate, female, fertile; corolla tubular, narrowed and 2- or 3-toothed at apex. Inner florets 2–5, bisexual, sterile, tubular, 3–5-toothed; corolla widened at apex; anthers obtuse at base, apical appendage short and acute.

Achenes with 2-fid hairs; pappus of scales longer than involucre and corolla.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., Vic., N.T., S.A., W.A.
