Genus Erodiophyllum Family Asteraceae

Description: Hairy perennial herbs.

Leaves cauline, alternate, pinnatisect, petiolate.

Inflorescence terminal, heads solitary, pedunculate; heads ovoid; involucral bracts herbaceous, in 1 row, spreading; receptacle conical, pitted; scales prominent, subtending florets, becoming hardened with age. Ray florets in 1 row, female, rarely bisexual with 2 or 3 stamens. Outer disc florets in 4–7 series, female, filiform; inner disc florets bisexual, sterile, tubular. Anthers obtuse at the base, with a sterile apical appendage. Style branches linear (outer disc florets) to short and oblong (inner disc florets), hairy.

Achenes compressed-obconic, glabrous; pappus of minute scales fused to form a crenate rim.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., S.A., W.A.
