Genus Erythroxylum Family Erythroxylaceae

Description: Shrubs or trees.

Leaves alternate.

Flowers axillary. Sepals 5, basally fused. Petals 5, each with a broad ± 2-lobed basal appendage. Stamens with filaments fused into a tube to about halfway. Ovary with 1 fertile loculus; styles fused to nearly free; ovule solitary.

Drupe 1-seeded.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 240 species, pantropical regions. Australia: 3 species (2 species endemic), Qld, N.S.W., N.T.
