Genus Gynura Family Asteraceae

Description: Perennial herbs.

Leaves are entire or serrate to pinnatifid-lobed.

Inflorescences few or many, paniculate-corymbose, discoid. Involucre calyculate (Bud or cup-shaped structure). Florets yellow, orange, red, purplish, white, or greenish. Style branches with long, filiform, papillose, sometimes coloured, terminal appendages.

Achenes oblong, ribbed. Pappus of many fine bristles.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 40 species species in Tropical Africa and Asia, Madagascar and northern Australia. NSW: 2 species, Gynura aurantiaca on Lord Howe Island.
