Description: Annual herbs with a cover of simple hairs; stems usually many branched.
Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, entire to pinnatifid.
Heads solitary or a few in terminal racemes, long pedunculate, campanulate; involucral bracts 2-seriate; outer bracts minute; inner bracts larger, becoming hardened and incurved in fruit, enclosing outermost achenes; receptacle flat, naked, pitted. Florets all ligulate, bisexual, fertile, corolla yellow, tube pubescent at mouth. Anthers sagittate. Style branches short, elliptic, papillose.
Achenes terete, cylindric or tapered above, ribbed, scabrous; pappus of outer achenes a short jagged crown; pappus of inner achenes scarious scales, fused at the base, sometimes with barbellate awns.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, Mediterranean region. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
