Description: Large caespitose and shortly rhizomatous herbs.
Leaves stiff, glabrous.
Inflorescence paniculate, bracteate, large. Flowers subtended by leaf-like bracts. Perianth usually glabrous, white or pink; margins of outer whorl incurved forming a hooded apex; inner whorl erect or spreading. Stamen 1; anther straight at dehiscence. Ovary 3-locular or imperfectly so, glabrous or hairy; style flexuous; stigma minute, capitate.
Fruit a loculicidal capsule or indehiscent; seeds numerous, striate.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, Australia & New Guinea. Australia: 2 species (native), Qld, N.S.W.
