Genus Landoltia Family Araceae

Description: Herb floating at water surface, solitary or thalli connected to form groups of 2–5 (or more); roots (1–) 2–7 (–12) per thallus. Thallus ovate to lanceolate, ± rounded or broad-obovate, flat to biconvex, 1.5–2 times longer than wide, above green and shiny with a medial series of papillae, lower surface often reddish or purplish and smooth; veins 3–7; dorsal and ventral scale present. Budding pouch with slit on the lower surface to the margin of the thallus. Root tracheids (elongated cells in xylem that transport water and minerals) present.

Inflorescence of 1 female and 2 male flowers together in a membranous bract. Anther 2-locular, external locules above the internal locules.

Fruit with a lateral wing; seeds 1 or 2, with 10–15 ribs.

Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species; Australia: 1 species; Qld, N.S.W., Vic., S.A. W.A.

Formerly in Lemnaceae.
