Genus Libertia Family Iridaceae

Description: Tufted, evergreen perennials.

Leaves numerous, basal, distichous, equitant, flat, grass-like. Scape terete; inflorescence cymose; spathe bracts short, spreading, herbaceous; flowers long-pedicellate, each with a short basal bracteole.

Flowers actinomorphic. Perianth tube short; tepals almost free, spreading, inner tepals larger, white. Stamens strongly exserted, spreading; filaments fused at base [or free]. Style deeply 3-fid, branches entire, filiform.

Capsule ovoid to subglobose, on long pedicel; seeds numerous, rounded to angular.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 12 species, America, Australia, New Guinea & New Zealand. Australia: 2 species (1 species endemic), Qld, N.S.W., Vic., Tas.
