Genus Melhania Family Malvaceae

Description: Evergreen herbs or shrubs.

Leaves toothed, petiolate; stipules shed early.

Flowers bisexual, axillary; bracts absent, bracteoles sometimes present. Epicalyx of 3 persistent segments. Calyx sepaloid, 5-lobed. Petals fused to c. midway. Stamens 5, united in a short cup below, staminodes 5. Ovary 5-locular, style branches 5.

Capsule ovoid; 4–8 seeds in each loculus.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 60 species, Africa, Madagascar & Australia. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
