Genus Oncinocalyx Family Lamiaceae

Description: Perennial herbs, variously pubescent.

Leaves opposite, simple.

Flowers zygomorphic, axillary, solitary or in almost sessile groups of 2 or 3. Calyx tubular with 10 veins; lobes 5, reduced to thread-like teeth, equal, narrow, hooked at apex, not enlarging in fruit. Corolla tubular, 2-lipped, scarcely longer than calyx, lower lip 3-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous, included in corolla tube. Ovary shortly 4-lobed; ovules 1 per loculus; style tapered, deeply bifid at apex.

Fruit dry, enclosed in calyx tube, separating into 4 pyrenes.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.

The taxonomic position of this genus has been uncertain. Previously it was included in the family Verbenaceae.
