Genus Pentapogon Family Poaceae

Description: Slender annuals or short-lived perennials.

Leaves with ligule membranous; blade scabrous to pubescent, inrolled.

Inflorescence a loosely contracted to open panicle, branches scabrid.

Spikelets narrow, gaping when mature, with 1 floret, disarticulating above the glumes. Glumes unequal, keeled, scabrid, with 2–4 short lateral nerves. Lemma narrow, shorter than lower glume, glabrous, 2-lobed at the apex with 2 short slender awns arising from each lobe and a stout, twisted, geniculate awn, 3 times as long as the glumes, in the sinus; callus short, bearded.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.
