Genus Pistacia Family Anacardiaceae

Description: Deciduous or evergreen trees or shrubs or woody vines, dioecious.

Leaves alternate, compound, mostly paripinnate, leaflets ± opposite.

Flowers in axillary, thyrsoid panicles or racemes, bracts not persistent, fruiting inflorescences pendent. Sepals 1–5. Petals absent. Stamens 5, inserted below a lobed, annular, cupuliform disc, reduced in female flowers. Ovary 1-locular.

Drupes obliquely ovoid, dry; seed compressed.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 9 spp. Medit., Asia and Malesia, N & C Amer. Aust.: 1 sp. (naturalized).
