Genus Plagiosetum Family Poaceae

Description: Leafy perennials or annuals with branched culms.

Leaves with ligule a rim of silky hairs; blade rolled in the bud, flat or convolute, scabrous or with tubercle-based hairs.

Inflorescence raceme-like, 1-sided, a primary axis with flattened branches consisting of variously united bristles, bearing 1 or 2 spikelets; branches reflexed at maturity, deciduous.

Spikelets 7 mm long, shortly pedicellate, falling with the branches; bristles united above the base into 3 or 4 branches, the 2 lateral branches spreading, 1 to each side of the spikelets; florets 2, the lower male or sterile, the upper bisexual. Glumes unequal, firm, lanceolate, the upper as long as the spikelet. Lemmas 2, the lower similar to the upper glume, the upper hard, shining, margins involute enclosing a firm palea. Palea shorter than lemma.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.
