Genus Pollia Family Commelinaceae

Description: Perennial herbs; stems ascending to erect.

Leaves glabrous to pubescent; lamina oblong to lanceolate, glabrous, sessile or petiolate.

Inflorescence terminal or in the upper axils. Flowers bisexual. Outer tepals free, mostly green; inner tepals subequal, free, elliptic or obovate, petaloid, white or pale violet. Stamens 6, all fertile and equal, or dimorphic with 3 fertile and 3 reduced or sterile anthers; filaments glabrous. Ovary 3-locular; ovules numerous in each loculus.

Seeds numerous, compressed, finely rugose.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 26 species, tropical regions. Australia: 2 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
