Genus Scoparia Family Plantaginaceae

Description: Herbs or small shrubs.

Leaves opposite or whorled, glandular, margin entire or toothed.

Flowers 1–3 per node. Calyx 4–5-lobed. Corolla nearly regular, densely hairy at throat, lobes 4, stamens 4, subequal. Style apically enlarged.

Capsule ovoid to globose, margin involute. Seeds small, many.


Distribution and occurrence: World; c. 20 species; mostly from tropical America. One species naturalised in Australia. NSW, Qld, WA, N.Territory.
