Genus Secamone Family Apocynaceae

Description: Woody climbers with twining stems.

Leaves without basal glands.

Cymes lateral, solitary, flowers small. Calyx short, tube shorter than lobes, each with a concave depression at base. Corolla rotate, deeply lobed. Corona of 5 incurved, horn-like segments shorter than column. Stamens with anther tips inflexed, winged, appressed to style head; pollinia ovoid, erect, 4 per anther. Style head broad, umbonate.

Follicles slender; seeds with a coma of silky hairs.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 100 species, tropical Asia to Africa. Australia: 1 species (endemic).
