Genus Xerothamnella Family Acanthaceae

Description: Subshrubs or herbs, with cystoliths; branches ribbed.

Leaves sessile or shortly petiolate.

Inflorescences of terminal clusters of 2–6 ± sessile flowers at different stages of development in axils of bracts; peduncle sturdy; bracts and bracteoles slightly longer than calyx. Calyx deeply 5-lobed. Corolla 2-lipped; upper lip widest, 4- or 2-lobed; lower lip 1- or 3-lobed. Stamens 2; anthers 1- or 2-locular. Ovary with 2 ovules per loculus.

Capsule club-shaped; seeds 2–4, discoid, smoothly tuberculate all over.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: Qld, N.S.W.
