Description: Erect shrub 40–150 cm high; young stems hispid to villous.
Leaves narrow to wide-elliptic, obovate, rhombic or ovate; 2.5–19 mm long, 1–4.5 mm wide; apex mainly acute but sometimes ± obtuse with a small callus; base subobtuse; lamina discolorous, upper surface glossy, lower surface dull and paler; ciliolate, mainly glabrous with scabrous indumentum towards the base on the upper surface or sometimes scattered along major veins; veins prominently raised on lower surface; petiole distinct, 0.9–1.2 mm long.
Flowers axillary, often grouped, white or cream-coloured; bracts leafy, caducous, 0.5–2.5 mm long, sometimes pubescent on lower surface; bracteoles 1–1.7 mm long. Sepals 1.4–2 mm long. Corolla tube usually flask-shaped, 4.3–5.5 mm long; lobes 1.8–2.4 mm long.
Fruit depressed-globose, 2–3 mm long, c. 4 mm diam., ridged, green to yellow-brown.
Flowering: mainly August–December
Distribution and occurrence: Mainly restricted to the coast and hinterland from central Qld south to East Gippsland region of Vic. Also extending to Leichhardt district (central Qld), Central and Southern Tablelands (Lithgow and Braidwood) and Central Western Slopes (Merriwa) of NSW. Grows in open situations on well-drained sites, predominantly N to E facing aspects; mainly in dry sclerophyll but also in other sclerophyll subformations; coastal sands and a variety of other soils including medium heavy clay; common.
