Conyza canadensis var. canadensis (L.) Cronquist APNI*

Description: Robust, erect annual herb to 1.5 m high, hispid; stems simple below the inflorescence, sparsely hirsute with long spreading septate hairs.

Leaves with long spreading antrorse septate hairs mainly confined to the margins and lower midrib; basal leaves oblong to oblanceolate, 2–10 cm long, 3–8 mm wide, toothed; upper leaves elliptic to linear, entire or finely toothed.

Inflorescence an extensive pyramidal panicle; heads campanulate to hemispherical, 3–4 mm long, 3–4 mm diam.; involucral bracts glabrous or sparsely hairy, light brown with paler margins, inner surface light brown. Outer florets with white ligules c. 1 mm long; inner florets few.

Achenes oblong, pale, pubescent; pappus of many, creamy bristles c. 4 mm long.
