Description: Erect annual herb, 5–25 cm high. Stems ribbed, branching near the base with multiple branching in the distal third of the plant with the flowering cymes.

Leaves basal but not in a rosette and cauline, glabrous, opposite, broad-ovate to sub-orbiculate, 5–12 mm long, 5–10 mm wide, acute or obtuse.

Inflorescence a dense 2–4 branched dichasium; flowers 5-merous. Calyx, fused at base, keeled with a winged, 3–4 mm long , lanceolate to elliptic, acute to acuminate, margins translucent. Corolla yellow 5–7 mm long; corolla tube 3–4.5 mm long, lobes 2–2.5 mm long, obtuse, buds twisted and remaining twisted.

Fruit ovate to oblong, 2.5–3 mm long, enclosed in calyx and withered corolla often with the corolla lobes still twisted in bud stage; seeds brown, minute, papillose.

Distribution and occurrence: Recorded from Anna Bay where uncommon. Grows in lawns in sandy situations. Native to the Port Elizabeth region of South Africa.
