Acianthus apprimus D.L.Jones APNI*

Description: Terrestrial herb.

Leaf 18–40 mm long, 14–35 mm wide, upper surface dark green, lower surface reddish purple.

Raceme 5–20 cm high, 2–9-flowered. Flowers 9–12 mm long, translucent pinkish with a dark purplish red labellum. Dorsal sepal narrow-ovate to ovate, cucullate, 9–14 mm long, 4–6 mm wide. Lateral sepals linear to lanceolate, 9–12 mm long, c. 1.3 mm wide, with a red central stripe; apical point 2–3 mm long. Petals narrow-ovate to lanceolate, c. 4 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, with a red central stripe. Labellum ovate to lanceolate, distal margins revolute, cordate to elliptic when flattened, 5.5–7 mm long, 2.5–4 mm wide, long-acuminate; callus thick, fleshy, densely papillose near the apex.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in moist areas of tall forest; known from Kanangra Walls, Mt Wilson and Point Lookout (New England N.P.).
