Agrostis australiensis Mez APNI*

Description: Erect, slender, densely tufted annual to 0.3 m high; culms 2-noded, the internodes shorter than the sheath.

Leaves with sheath striate, tight around the culms; ligule obtuse, c. 2 mm long; blade finely subulate, rather rigid, c. 0.4–1.4 mm wide.

Panicle lax, capillary, subpyramidal at maturity. Spikelets 2.3–3 mm long, often purplish. Glumes acute, the lower glume longer. Lemma rather thin, truncate, lanceolate to lanceolate-oblong, c. 1.7–2 mm long. Palea minute or absent.

Distribution and occurrence: Occurs south from the Brindabella Ra.

Grows in damp areas at high altitude.
