Aristida muricata Henrard APNI*

Description: Tufted perennial to 1 m high; culms simple or branched from the lower nodes.

Leaves with sheath glabrous, smooth; ligule c. 1 mm long; blade flat in the lower part or conduplicate, to 2 mm wide, long-scabrous on upper surface.

Panicle contracted, loose below, denser above, 17–30 cm long, branches very fine, curved or wavy. Glumes cuspidate, 8–12 mm long, equal or unequal, lower acuminate, upper obtuse or abruptly acuminate. Lemma linear to elliptic, 7–12 mm long, densely covered with curved spiny hairs in upper part; awns filiform, flattened in lower part, to 30 mm long.
