Description: Caespitose perennial to 0.5 m high; culms smooth, glabrous, terete.

Leaves with sheath smooth, glabrous; ligule 0.3–0.9 mm long; blade convolute, filiform, flexuous on drying, c. 0.5 mm wide, scabrous especially on upper surface.

Panicle open, 12–15 cm long. Glumes smooth, cuspidate, scaberulous on the keels, purplish, the lower 8–10 mm long, upper 12–13 mm long. Lemma usually convolute, c. 10 mm long, smooth to slightly scaberulous at the apex; awns very slender, to 37 mm long.
