Description: Erect perennial to c. 40 cm high, monoecious.

Leaves oblong, narrow-obovate to linear, to 40 mm long, apex obtuse, margins entire or sinuate; petiolate.

Flowers in axillary clusters or on short spike-like inflorescences (usually male). Fruiting bracteoles with a stipe-like base 3–4 mm long, apex expanded, fan-like with recurved lobes, the whole c. 8–12 mm long and as broad; usually inflated reniform appendage on the base of the expanded portion of each bracteole.
