Burmannia disticha L. APNI*

Description: Erect herb to c. 70 cm high with 1–3 unbranched leafy peduncles, ± glabrous.

Leaves spreading in a basal rosette, smaller and more erect up peduncle; linear to lanceolate or elliptic, 1–13 cm long, 2–10 mm wide, apex acute to acuminate and sometimes with glandular hairs, lamina sessile and stem-clasping with a sheathing base.

Inflorescence of usually 1 pair of monochasial cymes; each branch up to 15-flowered and 0.6–7 cm long; peduncle 2–13 cm long; flowers ± sessile; bracts 3–11 mm long. Perianth 8–30 mm long, blue with yellow bands; tube 8–30 mm long, 3–8 mm diam., 3-winged; lobes 0.5–3 mm long.

Capsule ellipsoid to ovoid, 3-ridged 6–20 mm long.

Flowering: throughout year.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in shaded sites, in swamps and wetlands, chiefly in coastal districts; north from Gosford, inland to Torrington.
