Description: Perennial, erect herb to 50 cm high, becoming woody at base.

Basal leaves oblanceolate, 3–7 cm long, 7–18 mm wide, margins coarsely toothed, petiolate; cauline leaves oblanceolate to cuneate, 2–6 cm long, 2–12 mm wide, margins entire to toothed, lamina hirsute to scabrous, base slightly stem-clasping, sessile.

Heads 10–15 mm diam., in loose leafy cymes; involucral bracts, linear, pubescent, acuminate; receptacle conical, with scales. Ray florets yellow; ligule c. 5 mm long.

Achenes 2–2.5 mm long, glabrous, smooth, with prominent marginal ridges; pappus of 6–10 awns, spreading or twisted, 1–3 mm long, hairy all over, barbed apically; apex of achene projecting as a hairy cone inside the pappus.
