Description: Prostrate to decumbent annual with a strong odour (trimethylamine) similar to decaying fish.

Leaves rhombic to broad-lanceolate, to 10 mm long and nearly as broad, lower surface with numerous vesicular hairs, upper surface sparsely hairy; petiole about half as long as lamina.

Inflorescence of short dense axillary clusters. Flowers mostly bisexual, c. 1 mm across. Perianth segments 5, or rarely 4, fused near the base. Stamen 1, rarely 2.

Seed horizontal, c. 1.5 mm diam., black.
