Description: Herb with 1, or occasionally up to 5, scapes 15–65 cm high; roots thick, spreading.

Leaves mainly basal, lanceolate, narrow-ovate, or spathulate, 6–25 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, apex obtuse to broad-acute; upper surface evenly grey-green with long fine white hairs, or hairs confined to the main veins and margins, minute glandular hairs sometimes present; lower surface sparsely whitish hairy, occasionally with minute glandular hairs.

Compound heads globose to hemisperical, 13–25 mm diam., with c. 100 partial heads; partial heads with 5–9 florets, main bract herbaceous with scarious lamina tinged brown; scape green to purplish, minutely glandular and often woolly. Corollas yellow.

Achenes 1–1.5 mm long; pappus of 14–17 colourless plumose bristles 2.5–4 mm long.

Flowering: early spring to summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in sclerophyll forest and grassland in wet or dry situations, and in swamps; widespread, chiefly south from Walcha.
NSW subdivisions: NC, CC, SC, NT, CT, ST, CWS, SWS
Other Australian states: Qld Vic.
