Description: Hairy herb with a single scape 10–50 cm high, with a simple rootstock; roots thick, spreading.

Leaves mainly basal, spathulate, 2.5–12 cm long, 2–11 mm wide, apex obtuse, base broad; surfaces and margins densely covered with multiseptate glandular hairs and long fine hairs, the tips glabrous.

Compound head globose, 15–35 mm diam., with to 100 partial heads; partial heads with 7–12 florets, main bract herbaceous and silky, margins scarious, colourless or dark brown; scape cream to crimson with scattered, hairy. Corollas golden-yellow.

Achenes 0.75–1.5 mm long; pappus of 14–18 plumose bristles 2.5–5.5 mm long.
