Description: Erect annual to c. 1.5 m high; stems sparsely pubescent.

Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets linear or lanceolate to elliptic, 3–4 cm long, 3–10 mm wide, upper surface glabrous, lower surface sparsely pubescent; petiole mostly 15–30 mm long; stipules usually absent.

Racemes 8–30 cm long, c. 40-flowered; pedicels 4–6 mm long. Calyx 3–4 mm long, sparsely pubescent. Corolla c. 8 mm long, yellow with purplish brown veins and a dark patch near base; wings usually longer than keel; keel shallowly incurved near middle, beak short c. 4–5 mm long.

Pod 20–35 mm long, pubescent, black at maturity; seeds 2–3 mm long, pale yellow to reddish.

Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated and sometimes naturalized; north from Sydney district. Native of Afr.
