Description: Annual with trailing, angular stems with stiff bristly hairs on the ridges.

Leaves with lamina broad-ovate to ± triangular, 3–6 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, cordate at base, margins toothed, upper surface scabrous and on veins below; petiole 8–12 cm long, with spreading hairs.

Flowers 1–4, on stalks 7–12 mm long.

Fruit ellipsoid, 4–6 cm long, pale green to yellow when ripe, densely covered with soft bristles; stalk 10–20 mm long.


Distribution and occurrence: Not common, occasionally naturalized. Native of trop. Afr.
