Cymbidium madidum Lindl. APNI*

Description: Epiphyte or occasionally an epilith with sympodial growth; pseudobulbs compressed, ovoid to narrow-ovoid, 6–25 cm long, 2–6 cm wide.

Leaves linear, 20–90 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, leathery, flexible, slightly V-shaped in cross section.

Inflorescence 20–80 cm long, 12–70-flowered, pendent, basal; pedicel plus ovary 10–33 mm long. Sepals and lateral petals usually olive green. Sepals 9–17 mm long, 4–9 mm wide. Labellum 10.5–13.5 mm long, lacking keels, with a shallow, viscid depression from the base to the base of the midlobe, yellow with a conspicuous red-brown stripe on the disc.


Distribution and occurrence: in the hollows of trees or in clumps of epiphytic ferns or occasionally on rocks, in rainforest or wet sclerophyll forest; north from the Clarence R.
