Description: Erect slender perennial to 1 m high.

Leaves with ligule membranous, truncate, jagged or laciniate, 2–5 mm long; blade 1.5–4 mm wide, scabrous to pubescent.

Panicle 3–21 cm long, loose, spreading or contracted, with branches bearing a few spikelets racemosely towards the ends. Spikelets 4.5–5 mm long, laterally compressed. Glumes slightly unequal, 1-nerved, keeled. Lemma slightly shorter than upper glume, lanceolate, somewhat acute or narrow-truncate, 2-fid at the apex, densely scaberulous, faintly 5-nerved above the middle, with a dorsal awn attached about the middle; awn slightly twisted in the lower part, geniculate, 3–4 mm long, shortly exceeding the lemma; callus barbed with rather stiff hairs 0.3–1 mm long. Palea subequal to lemma, rather broad, very narrow-truncate at apex, 2-keeled.


Flowering: spring–summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in open forest; south from the Brindabella Ra.
