Deyeuxia brachyathera (Stapf) Vickery APNI* 
Description: Erect perennial to 1.2 m high.
Leaves with ligule membranous, broad-ovate, c. 3 mm long; blade to 7 mm wide, scabrous.
Panicle contracted, linear to linear-lanceolate, 8–28 cm long, branches 3–5-nate, clustered. Spikelets 4–6 mm long, laterally compressed. Glumes narrow-lanceolate, acutely and finely acuminate, scarious towards the margins, strongly keeled, unequal, 1–3-nerved. Lemma 4.5–6 mm long, lanceolate, acute, entire or minutely 2-fid at apex, subequal to or longer than glumes, with a dorsal awn attached c. 1 mm below apex, minutely and rather distantly scaberulous, 5-nerved; callus shortly barbed with hairs c. 0.3–0.8 mm long; awn 4–5 mm long, recurved or straight. Palea 2.5–4 mm long, keeled.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in forest and mountain gullies, especially cool damp places; south from New England N.P.
