Description: Tufted to decumbent perennial to 0.5 m high.

Leaves with ligule membranous, truncate, ciliate at apex, 5–6 mm long; blade to 4 mm wide, slightly scabrous.

Panicle dense, cylindrical, 2.5–12 cm long. Spikelets 5–6 mm long, imbricate; florets often apparently cleistogamous. Glumes unequal, 1-nerved, keeled, the lower mucronate, upper subacuminate. Lemma 3.5–5 mm long, shorter than glumes, truncate, 2-fid at apex, lanceolate, scaberulous, obscurely 4-nerved above the middle, with a dorsal awn attached slightly above the middle; awn exceeding the lemma, shortly exserted, c. 4 mm long, twisted in the lower part, geniculate; callus c. 0.2 mm long, barbed with 0.2–1.2 mm long hairs. Palea shorter than lemma, c. 3.5 mm long, very narrow-truncate.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in damp, rocky areas and swamps in montane areas; south from Walcha district.
