Dichanthium tenue (R.Br.) A.Camus APNI*

Description: Erect perennial to < 1 m high.

Leaves with sheath glabrous; ligule to 1 mm long; blade to 3.5 mm wide, often hairy.

Racemes 1–3, 3–6 cm long, not conspicuously hairy. Lowest pairs of spikelets sterile. Pedicels ciliate on both sides with hairs increasing upwards to 1.5 mm long. Sessile spikelets 4–6 mm long; callus obtuse, densely bearded with hairs to 1 mm long. Lower glume scabrous to smooth, the subapical area firm but neither hyaline nor ciliate. Upper lemma stipe-like, with an awn c. 20–30 mm long. Pedicellate spikelets male, c. 6 mm long. Lower glume 9-nerved, the margins scabrous; upper glume a little shorter, 3-nerved, scabrous to pubescent near the margins in the upper part, otherwise glabrous. Lower lemma hyaline,nerveless, c. 50–70% the length of the lower glume; upper lemma hyaline, very slender, short or absent.
