Diplachne muelleri Benth. APNI*

Description: Erect, tufted annual or perennial to 1.5 m high; culms 1–3-noded.

Leaves with sheath loose; ligule becoming lacerated, to 3 mm long; blade flat or incurved, 2–5 mm wide.

Panicle narrow, 7–30 cm long, branches erect, rather short. Spikelets broad-linear, almost sessile, dorsally compressed, 8–13-flowered, 12–21 mm long. Glumes 1-nerved, lower acute to mucronate, 3–4 mm long; upper acute to obtuse, 4.5–6 mm long. Lemmas 3-nerved, broad-oblong, obtuse or abruptly narrowed and 2-fid at the tip, shortly mucronate, shortly pubescent below the middle. Palea ciliate on the keels and pubescent on the margins.


Flowering: in response to flooding.

Distribution and occurrence: Grows in or near water, or in depressions.
