Description: Annual herb to 60 cm high; branches erect, very shortly hairy and often appearing glabrous; hairs simple, retrorse.

Lower leaves with lamina oblong to narrow-ovate, 1.5–7 cm long, 0.7–2 cm wide; apex obtuse; base cuneate; margins toothed to crenate; moderately covered with short, simple antrorse hairs and sessile glands; shortly petiolate.

Inflorescence with 6–10 flowers in the axil of each upper leaf; internodes ± distinct, shorter towards apex; bracts leaf-like with teeth spinose. Calyx moderately covered with simple retrorse hairs and sessile glands; lobes apiculate. Corolla 20–25 mm long, white to violet.


Flowering: spring to early summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Doubtfully naturalized in Barraba district. Native of Eur.
