Description: Prostrate annual with simple or glandular multicellular hairs.

Leaves elliptic, 5–10 mm long, apex obtuse; petiolate.

Glomerules axillary, c. 2.5 mm diam. Terminal flower bisexual; perianth segments 3, free, c. 1 mm long, hooded with a filiform claw-like base; stamens 2; styles 2. Secondary terminal flower similar to terminal flower but perianth segments 2 and stamen 1. Lateral flowers female; perianth segments 1 or 2, strongly hooded, inflated, c. 0.7 mm long.

Pericarp membranous, fused to seed, minutely granular. Seed erect, c. 0.4 mm long, dull reddish brown. Seeds and perianth segments falling separately.


Distribution and occurrence: Grows on heavy soils near ephemeral water, in arid areas of the mainland.
