Elaeodendron australe Vent. APNI* Synonyms: Cassine australis (Vent.) Kuntze APNI*
Description: Shrub or small tree to 8 m high, dioecious, glabrous.
Leaves opposite or occasionally alternate, obovate to elliptic or oblong, mostly 2.7–15 cm long, 0.4–7 cm wide, glossy; margin crenate; apex acute to rounded; petiole 4–10 mm long.
Flowers in few-flowered axillary cymes; peduncle to 12 mm long; pedicel 3–7 mm long. Calyx unequally 4-lobed. Corolla of 4 petals, each c. 2.5 mm long, yellowish green. Male flowers with disc 4-angled; stamens 4, inserted on disc margin. Female flowers with staminodes 4, inserted on margin of slightly indented disc; ovary 2-locular.
Fruits more or less ellipsoid to oblong-ovoid, fleshy, 10–25 mm long, orange-red; seed 1.
Distribution and occurrence: This species occurs along the coast north from Tuross Head and inland from the Scone district. NC CC SC NT NWS CWS NWP; Qld Grows in coastal and inland rainforest.
