Eleocharis dietrichiana Boeckeler APNI*

Description: Slender perennial with short rhizome.

Culms densely tufted or solitary along rhizome, terete, to 30 cm high and c. 1.5 mm diam., with partial transverse septa usually obvious when dried.

Spikelet ovoid to oblong, 6–9 mm long, 2–3 mm diam. Glumes acute, c. 3.5 mm long, straw-coloured tinged red-brown. Bristles 6, firm, closely and shortly retrorsely scabrous, three-quarters as long as to equalling nut. Stamens 3; anthers 1.1–2 mm long. Style 3-fid.

Nut subequally trigonous, with angles ± acute, obovoid, with a short but distinct neck, 1.2–1.4 mm long, 0.7–0.8 mm diam., golden brown to dark brown; external cells minute, shortly vertically oblong; style base about as long as and about half as broad as nut.

Flowering: spring–summer.

Distribution and occurrence: North from Sydney, west to Wilsons Downfall.

Grows in moist situations.
