Description: Erect herb to 1 m high; stems branched in upper half.

Leaves ovate, narrowly ovate or narowly obovate, 6–25 cm long, 5–10 cm wide, stem-clasping, crenate to sharply toothed, pilose.

Compound heads to 20 mm diam.; bracts 3, ± cordate, acute to short-acuminate, c. 10 mm long and 8 mm wide, pilose; involucral bracts narrowly ovate, acuminate, margin membranous at least below, sparsely hairy. Florets 5–6 mm long, white (or pink).

Achenes c. 3 mm long; pappus of 5 bristles widened at base, 3–4.5 mm long.
