Enteropogon unispiceus (F.Muell.) Clayton APNI* Description: Slender tufted perennials to c. 50 cm tall.
Leaves mostly basal; sheath margin hairy; ligule a fringe of hairs; blade filiform, flat or involute or convolute, to c. 10 cm long, 0.5–1.5 mm wide, scabrous, margins scabrous.
Inflorescence solitary or digitate, with 1–4, unilateral spicate branches each 2–8 cm long.
Spikelets broadside to rachis, lax, regular, appressed, solitary. Fertile spikelets at least 3-flowered, with 1 fertile floret, with diminished florets at the apex, lanceolate, laterally compressed, 4–5 mm long, breaking up at maturity, disarticulating below each fertile floret; spikelet callus 0.4–0.6 mm long. Floret callus glabrous, obtuse. Glumes persistent, similar, thinner than fertile lemma, gaping; lower glume lanceolate, 1.5–3.5 mm long, 50–75% upper glume length, membranous, 1-nerved, midnerve scaberulous, lateral nerves absent, apex acuminate, muticous or mucronate; upper glume lanceolate, 3.1–5.5 mm long, 75–80% adjacent fertile lemma length, membranous, 1-nerved, midnerve scaberulous, lateral nerves absent, apex acuminate, mucronate or awned with awn 0–1 mm long. Fertile lemma lanceolate or elliptic or oblong, dorsally compressed, 4–5.2 mm long, cartilaginous or coriaceous, 3-nerved; apex entire, acuminate, 1-awned; awn 6–10 mm long overall. Palea 2-nerved; apex acuminate. Apical sterile florets 1(-2), linear or lanceolate, 1.5–3 mm long; sterile lemmas acute, 1-awned with awns 3–4 mm long. Grain flattened.
